ICOAST-MONEY-BCEAO
A client pays at a pharmacy 08 September 2004 with old banknotes issued by the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) in the Ivorian city of Abidjan, where posters advertising the change have been posted in public places. The BCEAO, which oversees financial operations in eight west African countries -- Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Guinee-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Togo -- will withdraw from circulation all banknotes "type 1992" by 31 December 2004.
