US-WEATHER-HURRICANE IVAN
This NASA Satellite image received 10 September, 2004 shows hurricane Ivan. The outer bands of Hurricane Ivan lashed Jamaica on Friday after devastating Grenada and leaving a trail of death and destruction across a swath of the southern Caribbean. At least 27 people have been killed by the worst storm to hit the region in decades. Cuba and the US state of Florida also ordered emergency precautions. Jamaican authorities renewed urgent appeals for people to move away from the coast before the worst of the hurricane was felt. But with heavy rain and winds buffeting the country, the head of the island emergency management department said only about 300 people were in the scores of open shelters. AFP PHOTO/NASA
