IRAN - COMEMORARE - HEZBOLLAH - HASHEM SAFIEDDINE
October 31, 2024, Tehran, Iran: Iranian Brigadier General ESMAIL QAANI (C), Head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, attends a ceremony at Palestine Square in Tehran, commemorating the late Hashem Safieddine, a prominent cleric who was expected to succeed the assassinated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed by an Israeli airstrike in Beirut. Qaani, appointed by the Supreme Leader after Qasem Soleimani’s death, leads the Quds Force’s extraterritorial operations. In October 2024, rumors suggested he was injured or killed alongside Hashem Safieddine in the Dahieh airstrike. He reappeared later that month at a ceremony for Abbas Nilforoushan.
