IRAN - COMEMORARE - HEZBOLLAH - HASHEM SAFIEDDINE
October 31, 2024, Tehran, Iran: Senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps official and former head of the IRGC's Intelligence Organization, HOSSEIN TAEB, attends a ceremony at Palestine Square in Tehran, commemorating the late Hashem Safieddine, a prominent cleric who was expected to succeed the assassinated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed by an Israeli airstrike in Beirut. Taeb was the head of the IRGC's Intelligence Organization from 2009 to 2022. He studied in religious seminaries under Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and joined the IRGC in the early 1980s. Taeb was crucial in suppressing protests following the 2009 Iranian presidential election. In 2022, the U.S. Department of State sanctioned him for human rights abuses. He was dismissed in June 2022 due to intelligence failures, including exposed operations and alleged espionage incidents. (Credit Image: © Rouzbeh Fouladi/ZUMA Press Wire)
