ITALY-POPE-AUDIENCE-HAITI
Pope John Paul II during a special audience for Italian prison guards in the courtyard of his summer residence of Castelgandolfo 27 September 2004. The pontiffI has donated 100,000 dollars (82,000 euros) to the victims of hurricane Jeanne in Haiti, the Vatican announced Monday. The sum was sent by the Vatican-s Pontifical Council Cor Unum, or One Heart, and is to be disbursed by Haiti-s bishops and the Catholic humanitarian organization, Caritas.
