After a string of denials and contradictions from Colombian officials, Defense Minister Jorge Alberto Uribe admitted 13 January 2005 paying a bounty for the capture in Caracas, Venezuela, of a top rebel leader, but denied violating Venezuela-s national sovereignty. Colombia at first said that Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia guerrilla leader Rodrigo Granda -- alias Ricardo Gonzalez -- was captured in the Colombian town of Cucuta near the border with Venezuela on December 13.
