IRAQ-UNREST-MINES

A Kurdish man injured by a land mine toils wearing a prosthetic leg 08 August 2006, in the northern village of Sidakan, near the Iranian borders. Ten to 12 million different mines that date from Iraqi-Iranian war 1980-1988, are still planted in multiple Kurdish villages, where they cause fatal injuries for the population. Meanwhile, gunmen attacked employees of a de-mining Iberman organization in Kolajo 180 km south of Suleimaniya, said Sardar Mohammed of the township. He added that the Director of the organization Hussein Ali Abdul-Rahman was wounded in the attack. AFP PHOTO/SAFIN HAMED
