US-POVERTY-HOMELESSNESS
TO GO WITH STORY EEUU-POBREZA BY RANDY NIEVES
Robert (R) covers himself in a blanket as he stands in the rain while watching other homeless people and volunteers throw some plastic sheeting over a temporary structure in a vacant lot in Miami's Liberty City neighborhood 28 October 2006. A couple dozen activists and homeless people set up tents and built shelters out of wood pallets in a city-owned vacant lot in an effort to house neighborhood homeless people and to alleviate what organizers called lack of interest by the city in housing poor black people. According to figures by the US Census Bureau 37 million people lived in poverty in 2005. AFP PHOTO/Roberto SCHMIDT
