A man carries a coffin 14 October 2003 in El Alto, outskirsts of La Paz. A soldier and 27 civilians died in Bolivia during protests to oust President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada on Monday and Tuesday, bringing to 60 the death toll over the past month, according to hospitals, local media and human rights groups. La Paz and El Alto, where the airport serving the capital is located, were calm Tuesday, as armored vehicles patrolled the streets. Ten years ago the "Gas War" or the "Gas conflict" as it was known, ended with 60 dead people after riots in La Paz and El Alto and gave way to the indigenous movement led by Evo Morales.
